It’s important that you educate yourself on exactly what it means to eat low carb and become familiar with the principles. Reading up will help you stay clear the common myths out there. The good news is that science is catching up and you can read for yourself the many health benefits to eating this way.
2. Start Making Small Changes
It’s easy to get overwhelmed when you first start eating this way. Your mind can spin with trying to make so many changes at once. Although for some going all in low carb is the best way to prevent food addictions. It may not be the best way to start for others. In reality the very first with just becoming how many carbs you are consuming. When you begin to read labels and understand the process, it will become easier to say no to empty carbs. I know several people that have seen weight loss by just cutting back on their carb consumption. While you are learning about low-carb eating, you can take small steps by choosing one or two things to change at a time. You may be surprised that some results can be achieved with just a little effort.
3. Choose Your Plan
You may be surprised to know that there are several low carb plans for you to choose from. There is no one low-carb diet. There are popular plans like Atkins, Paleo, LCHF, Slow carb, No White Diet, some carb levels quite low others not as strict. Basically all of them cut out most sugars and starches. Again, the best thing to do is to read up and see what’s doable for you. You might find yourself doing say a South Beach diet and then progress to an Atkins style plan. Currently we are doing a LCHF plan because you get the most results for your effort, but we started on Atkins style.
4. Get To Know What Is Allowed
Instead of focusing what is not allowed on a low carb plan, focus on what you can include. In the beginning keep that list simple, it will help you get on board quickly. Then progress to expending your choices by finding new and interesting foods to include. Simple choices like substituting vegetables for the starch, when it comes to eating your favorite meals will be very beneficial. Consider using a meal plan and be prepared. Not only will it prevent you from falling for temptations but you will be surprised to see how this simple tool will save you money too. Just make sure you remember to schedule snacks into your meal plans too.
5. Get Support
Trying to do this lifestyle can be difficult in the beginning. Instead of trying to figure everything out by yourself get the support you need by joining a Face Book group and if available a group like ours FitToServe has monthly free meetings to assist you on your journey. Doing so will help you not give up the first time you come across a speed bump. Instead surround yourself with people that can pick you up if you fall into temptation. Take advantage of the knowledge of those who have gone before you.
