What Are Fat Bombs?

Before I share my keto chocolate peanut butter fat bombs with you, are you wondering what on earth our fat bombs are?

The name sounds strange and not exactly appetizing. But trust me, once you understand the benefits of adding healthy fats to your diet, you will see the value.

If I were trying to lose weight, why would I add more fat to my diet?

For a girl who grew up hearing that all fat should be shunned, it didn’t make real sense to me either until I understood that it’s like having an energy bite.

Consider it a tasty treat that can help you lose weight!

Fat bombs can be the perfect snack since they are made with simple ingredients, and they can even be savory fat bombs with the same benefits.

They are a popular treat among people who follow a low-carb, paleo, or ketogenic diet.

But it’s also a great hack for losing weight among the low-carb community. They are used to naturally raise ketone levels with the goal of controlling their appetites and cravings.

Why should you even consider adding fat bombs to your diet? Here’s the thing: in a low-carb keto plan, you use fat as fuel instead of glucose and sugar.

By adding more healthy fats to your diet and reducing your carbs, you naturally raise your ketone levels. A treat like these fat bombs can assist you on your keto diet.

Making sure your healthy fat ratio is higher helps you be satiated longer. They can give you a boost of energy and give your brain the healthy fats it craves.

Keep in mind that the quality of your ingredients really matters when it comes to creating a chocolate and peanut butter fat bomb recipe.

You want to choose a creamy peanut butter that does not include any added sugar or oil.

To make this recipe, start by melting creamy, sugar-free peanut butter, coconut oil, and cocoa powder together in a double boiler or microwave, stirring well at 30-second intervals.

Then, mix in the confectioner’s sugar substitute and sea salt to the chocolate peanut butter mixture.

Pour the mixture into silicone molds and freeze until it becomes firm, which should take about 30 minutes.

Once firm, remove the fat bombs from the molds, transfer them to an airtight container, and store them in the freezer for up to one month.

Your Brain Needs Healthy Fats

Most people don’t realize that a ketogenic diet can offer more than just weight management benefits. In fact, being in ketosis has neuroprotective properties too.

This is why you shouldn’t ignore the essential fatty acids omega-3 and omega-6, both of which are crucial for brain health and function.

Do you know that most of our brain tissue is made up of fatty acids? This is why it only makes sense to include more recipes like this.

Simply put, fat bombs can help increase the overall health of our brains by giving them the fat they crave.

How To Add Fat Bombs To Your Diet

I believe that adding fat bombs makes the most sense if you have reduced your carbs and are following a low-carb, keto lifestyle.

If you decide to make fat bombs part of your regular diet without making adjustments, you may just end up gaining weight.

This is because you can’t load up on carbs and expect the extra fat from fat bombs not to be stored.

In order to gain the benefits of fat bombs, you should include them as part of a well-balanced diet.

What’s more, you should try to limit them to only once a day as a snack or light meal.

Best Confectioner’s Sugar Substitutes

As far as which sweetener to use in this keto peanut butter fat bomb recipe, you will need a sugar-free confectioner’s sugar option.

Using a powdered sugar option ensures the fat bombs have a velvety, smooth texture. Both Lakanto and Swerve have great ones to choose from.

I just wanted to say that these are absolutely delicious!! I made my 3rd batch last night. I mix everything in a bowl and pour it into about a 6x6" flat bottom plastic storage container and put it in the freezer. Before it freezes rock solid I cut it into rough squares. What a treat!! And with all the health and nutritional benefits of 100% cocoa, coconut oil and pure peanut butter - it's even better!!

I made these last weekend and I'm heating up another batch now. They taste exactly like Reese's peanut butter cups to me. The only thing I don't like is that they melt really fast at room temp. Thanks so much for the great recipe!

Hi Karen, So thrilled to hear you are enjoying these fat bombs. Unfortunately, the use of coconut oil, which is essential to the recipe means that it must be refrigerated. I personally, keep mine in the freezer.

As everyone else has stated; these are soooo good and easy! I chop up pecans and fill my molds about halfway up with them before pouring my mixture into the molds. I love them both ways, but kinda like the crunch of the pecans better. Definitely my go to snack; the only way I can stay on keto is to have chocolate every day!!
