I’ll admit that I was a little wary about attempting to make keto-friendly pumpkin spice scones for you all. Let’s face it, making a traditional pumpkin scone is intimidating enough, but a keto one? The truth is, I just wasn’t sure I would be able to get the texture right.
After all, no one wants a soggy scone. But I found a way to adapt my base keto scones recipe to produce what I feel is a fantastic pumpkin spice keto scones recipe, and my taste testers agreed.
Thankfully, these scones are quick, simple, and have the perfect amount of sweetness.
I’ve added low-carb maple icing to help ensure that you forget Starbucks pumpkin scones and can stay in the ketosis lane all pumpkin season long.
How To Make Keto Pumpkin Scones

Do you know what I love most about these keto-friendly pumpkin scones? How super easy they are to make since there is no rolling of dough involved.
Look, the vast majority of scone recipes call for rolling and then cutting the dough prior to baking. But I’ve found a way to make them simply by spreading the dough into a cast-iron skillet. This saves time and ensures that they have the perfect crusty crumb.
These keto pumpkin scones use a combination of almond and coconut flour. I use them both because each of these flours plays a role in getting the texture as close to that of real scones as possible.
Ingredients And Tips
This recipe for low-carb pumpkin scones is pretty straightforward, and I am confident you’ll be able to get the same amazing results if you follow the recipe carefully.
The following are the ingredients you’ll need. Note that the full printable recipe card is at the end of the post. However, I have a few tips you might want to stick around for.
My first tip is to make sure your spices are fresh. I’ve made it a habit to buy new spices at the start of pumpkin season since the majority of those spices are not used all year long.
This tip may not seem vital, but it is. It will make all the difference in helping you achieve a flavorful treat.
The second important piece of advice I can give you is to make sure that you are using 100% pumpkin puree and not pumpkin pie filling, which is loaded with sugar.
Lastly, take a moment to blot your pumpkin puree before adding it to your dough mixture. Blotting the pumpkin puree will help remove excess moisture from the scone dough.
To blot the pumpkin, add the measured amount of pumpkin puree and squeeze out the moisture with a paper towel. You should use a high-absorbency paper towel.

- Sugar-free maple syrup
- Unsalted butter

I feel that the scones bake more evenly, which allows for a perfect crust. But if you do not yet own one, you can alternatively use a 9-inch baking pan; it just won’t produce the same texture.
Sugar-Substitute Options
I have several options when it comes to which sweetener you can use in this sugar-free pumpkin scone recipe. I am partial to Lakanto Monk Fruit.
Lakanto Monk Fruit is my favorite since the texture and flavor are what I have found to be the closest to real sugar and because the flavor fools your taste buds like nothing else I’ve found in the market.
Having said that, I’m also partial to the brand Swerve, which is an erythritol blend. Similar to Lakanto, it uses sugar alcohols and has a 0% impact on blood sugar.
You could also use the stevia- and erythritol-based brand Pyure if you prefer to use a stevia-based sweetener.
Note that if this is your pick, make sure you reduce the amount called for in the recipe by half since it’s a much sweeter option.
Lastly, if you can’t easily find a more natural sugar substitute, you can also use Splenda with good success.
I know not everyone would agree with me here, and I respect that, but in my book, it’s still better than regular sugar.

These keto pumpkin spice scones are easy, delicious, and sure to become your new favorite pumpkin season treat.
They are low carb pumpkin scones that are loaded with pumpkin flavor and glazed with a sugar-free maple icing for the perfect pumpkin scone.
Ingredients
Keto Pumpkin Spice Scones
- 1 3/4 cups of finely milled almond flour
- ½ cup of coconut flour
- ½ cup of sugar substitute
- 1/4 cup of full-fat sour cream
- 4 tablespoons of melted butter
- 2 eggs, room temperature
- 1/2 cup of pumpkin puree, that has been blotted (See notes for instructions)
- 1 teaspoon of orange extract
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 ½ teaspoons of baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon of sea salt
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
Keto Maple Glaze
- 1/2 cup of confectioners' sugar substitute
- 3 tablespoons of sugar-free syrup
- 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
Keto Pumpkin Spice Scones
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
- Grease with butter a 9-inch cast-iron skillet.
- Melt the butter and set aside to cool.
- Combine the sugar substitute, melted butter, orange extract, vanilla extract, and eggs using an electric mixer.
- Add the sour cream and pumpkin puree and combine well.
- Next, add the dry ingredients (the almond flour, coconut flour, baking powder, and sea salt), then stir until thoroughly combined.
- Spread the batter into a fully greased 9-inch cast-iron skillet. If you do not own a cast-iron skillet, grease a round 9-inch cake pan.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until firm to touch and lightly brown.
- Store your keto pumpkin scones in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freeze for up to three weeks.
Keto Maple Glaze
- In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the butter and sugar-free maple syrup, stirring occasionally. After the butter is melted, remove from heat and whisk the confectioner's sugar substitute and a pinch of salt.
- Drizzle the glaze over the slightly warm scones.
Notes
Blot the pumpkin puree to remove excess moisture in the scone dough. To blot the pumpkin simply add the measured amount of pumpkin puree on to a large paper towel and gently squeeze out the moisture. You will want to use a high absorbency paper towel.
