Keto Tex Mex Seasoning

This recipe for keto Tex-Mex seasoning is so easy to make and adds so much flavor to any dish. Use it when cooking chicken, beef, pork, shrimp, and vegetables too!

Perfect for your next Taco Tuesday or any day of the week really.

This sugar-free Tex-Mex seasoning is also so versatile because it can be used while cooking, as well as a dry rub for chicken, steaks, and even ribs!

It also makes a great marinade when you combine it with olive oil and lime juice. Trust me, you’ll enjoy finding new ways to incorporate this low in carbs seasoning mix into your cooking!

The best part about this Tex-Mex seasoning is that it isn’t packed with unnecessary sugar like the store-bought version!

One of the many great benefits of making your own sugar-free Tex-Mex spice mix is that you can customize it for your needs! If you love spicy (like me!), add more jalapeno powder and red pepper flakes.

If you’re more sensitive to heat, you can add less. If you like a smokier flavor, you can increase the amount of chipotle and smoked paprika! The options are endless, really.

This gluten-free Tex-Mex seasoning is designed to be medium heat but of course, this is subjective.  Another element you can control easily is salt.

You can add more or less salt or even opt to leave out the salt so that you have total control when cooking later on.

My favorite part of making this mix is not just how easy it is to make but also how much time it saves me when cooking!

Instead of pulling out all of my spices, I can just reach for the one jar! This makes for easier, faster, and cleaner cooking, which are all things we can use more of every day in the kitchen.

You might be wondering, “Why would I need to make a keto Tex-Mex seasoning?” since spices don’t have carbs. Well, here’s why: when you buy a pre-made seasoning blend at the store, they add things like whole wheat flour and corn syrup to them!

This, of course, leads to those pesky hidden carbs we don’t even realize we’re consuming but add up rather quickly.

That’s why making your own seasonings, rubs, and marinades at home is a great way to know exactly what’s in your food.

The Best Sugar Substitutes

For this homemade sugar-free Tex-Mex seasoning I chose to add a little of my favorite granulated sugar substitute, Lakanto to add in that hint of sweetness that balances out the heat.

Lakanto is my favorite because it is a monk fruit/erythritol blend, which makes it a great natural choice without an aftertaste.

Swerve an erythritol sugar substitute that also works well for this blend.

You could also use the stevia and erythritol-based brand Pyure however, if using Pyure you will want to use half the amount called for in this recipe since it’s a much sweeter choice.

If stevia is your preferred choice, feel free to use the Pyure brand. I find it’s one of the best options on the market.

Lastly, if you can’t easily find a more natural sugar substitute, you can also use Splenda with great success.
