Keto Mocha Blackout Brownies
It’s not hard to tell that I am a major lover of all things chocolate. The richness of dark chocolate captured my heart ions ago. When I went keto that love for chocolate didn’t diminish one single bit.
This is why creating low-carb, keto-friendly recipes was kind of a must for this girl.
I needed recipes that were delicious but still kept me true to the keto diet. Sometimes the only thing that will knock out a chocolate craving is to go into my kitchen and begin experimenting.
These low-carb mocha brownies are a result of craving the sugar-filled mocha brownies that I used to make in my “pre-keto” days. I knew there had to be a way to get the same flavor and texture that I loved so much!
Of course, the key to getting that fudgy, moist brownie turned out to be adding cream cheese to the batter. It’s also important to ever so slightly under-bake the brownies to make sure they are indeed fudgy.
How To Make Keto Mocha Brownies
This recipe calls for finely milled almond flour, which is measured and then sifted. This is key, and in fact, with the exception of a few recipes, I always recommend sifting nut flours when keto baking.
That small extra step makes a world of difference to make sure that your baked goods have the right texture.
You’ll also notice that this recipe for low-carb mocha brownies calls for a large number of eggs, this is to keep them super moist and fudgy.
Making these sugar-free brownies is super simple and quick! You’ll start by making sure your eggs, butter, and cream cheese are all at room temperature, don’t skip this step!
In a large bowl, you’ll cream together the butter, cream cheese, and sugar substitute. Then you’ll add the eggs, one at a time, making sure to mix well between additions.
Then you’ll add in your sifted almond flour, baking powder, cocoa powder, and instant espresso powder.
After you’ve mixed the batter well you can add in your mix-ins, I added chopped walnuts and sugar-free chocolate chips. Lastly, you’ll add your batter to a 12×12 baking pan and bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
You’ll know the brownies are down when the top appears dry and an inserted toothpick comes out clean. You want to make sure the brownies haven’t set completely, this will make for a more fudgy brownie.

Best Sugar Substitutes For Keto Mocha Brownies
As far as choosing your sweetener, my top choice is a monk fruit/erythritol blend. My personal favorite is Lakanto’s brand. But you can also use Swerve an erythritol sugar substitute.
You could also use the stevia and erythritol-based brand Pyure for most of my baked goods. However, if using Pyure, you will want to use half the amount called for in this recipe since it’s a much sweeter choice.

I will also add that I personally find that chocolate tends to intensify the aftertaste of stevia.
Lastly, if you can’t easily find a more natural sugar substitute, you can also use Splenda for baking or a generic brand of the same. It will work with great success.
I know not everyone would agree with me here, and I respect that, but in my book, it’s still better than regular sugar.

Keto Mocha Blackout Brownies (Gluten-Free)
This recipe for Keto Mocha Blackout Brownies makes the darkest, most moist, super fudgy brownies ever. Made with a combination of cream cheese, dark cocoa powder, espresso powder, and almond flour, these sugar-free mocha brownies are simple and easy to make.
Ingredients
- 8 ounces of full-fat cream cheese, room temperature
- 1 cup of unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 1/2 cups of granulated sugar substitute,
- 6 large eggs , room temperature
- 1 ½ cups of finely milled almond flour , measured and sifted
- 1 cup of Hershey’s Special Dark Cocoa Powder
- 2 teaspoons of instant espresso powder
- 2 teaspoons of baking powder
- ½ cup of sugar-free dark chocolate chips
- ½ cup of walnuts, optional
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- Measure and sift the almond flour and set it aside.
- Grease with butter and add a layer of parchment paper with a couple of inches of overhang to a 12 x12 square pan.
- In a large bowl using an electric mixer combine the cream cheese, butter, and sugar substitute until light and fluffy.
- Add the 6 eggs one at a time mix well after each addition until fully incorporated.
- Next, add the dark cocoa powder, sifted almond flour, espresso powder, and baking powder and combine well.
- Fold in the sugar-free chocolate chips and walnuts and pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
- Bake the brownies for 20 to 25 minutes. Brownies are done when the top appears dry and the center is just barely set.
- Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
- Store any leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 3 weeks.
Notes
The brownies should be set but not dry all the way through. You do not want to overbake these brownies or else they won't be fudgy.
