This delicious recipe for keto chocolate chip scones delivers all the taste of traditional scones minus all the carbs. Have you been looking for an easy way to enjoy scones on a low-carb keto diet?
Well, you’ve come to the right place because my recipe for low-carb chocolate chip scones not only allows you to safely enjoy the tradition of tea and scones but also allows you to do so easily. High tea, anyone?
Perhaps ceremonious tea is not your thing, but the scones that accompany this tradition would make a believer out of anyone.
Unfortunately, even though I love a good cup of tea, and this girl does, the high carb count in traditional scones would ruin the afternoon tea experience for me.
Thankfully, you can have your cup of tea and a keto-friendly chocolate chip scone and not be derailed. Although most scones are not overly sweet, the regular flours used in them can cause your insulin levels to spike through the roof.

Keto Chocolate Chip Scones
What makes these keto-friendly chocolate chip scones stand apart from traditional ones is that they use a batter that can be spread rather than rolled and are baked in a cast-iron skillet.
However, they can also be baked in a cake pan. I sure hope that at some point, you get your hands on a cast-iron skillet because the crust it produces is unmatched.
There is no need to spend much time trying to cut the butter perfectly into the flour with fancy pastry cutters. Or worry if your dough actually looks like peas before proceeding.
All those steps just intimidate and keep people from finding low-carb options that can keep them on track.
But I’m not here to impress you with a recipe that requires a culinary background to enjoy.
No, what I want is to give you easy low-carb keto recipes that you can confidently make, no matter your level of expertise.
It’s all about making treats that are simple enough for you to make, even if you’re not yet familiar with how to bake with low-carb keto flours.
I think it’s important to include healthy treats like these scones in your diet in order to avoid major slips. It’s a way to not feel deprived and, therefore, allows you to stay compliant with the keto lifestyle easily.
How To Make Easy Keto Chocolate Chip Scones
Scones are a type of quick bread, making them super easy to make. They use baking powder or soda instead of yeast as their leavening agent.
However, the dough in this recipe is one you mix and spread in the pan, making it failproof. Keep in mind that these scones are a little less flaky, but other than that, they share lots of similarities to the classic recipe.
These are not only low in carbs, but gluten-free chocolate chip scones made with a combination of almond flour and coconut flour for the perfect crumb texture.
I added a drizzle of chocolate icing to the recipe that takes it over the top. Personally, I think using a high-quality vanilla extract in the batter is worth the tiny investment. Olive Nation has a great one you may want to try.
Classic scone-making usually involves cold butter that is sliced thinly and cut into flour. But I use melted butter in my keto scone recipes.
Since keto baking is very different from high-carb baking, somehow, the use of melted butter with the two types of keto-friendly flour works well and keeps the recipe super simple.
Keep in mind that these low-carb scones are void of gluten, so there is no worry about overworking the dough.
That is another nice benefit of making these treats. Below are the ingredients you’ll need. Note that the full printable recipe card is at the bottom of the page.

Baking Keto Scones In A Cast-Iron Skillet
Perhaps you’re wondering why I choose to make my keto scones in a cast-iron skillet. The reason why my keto chocolate chip scones and all my scones are baked in a skillet is two-fold.
One is the convenience of not having to form each scone individually, and two is the great crust that cooking in a cast-iron skillet provides.
If you still don’t own a cast-iron skillet, I highly encourage you to put it at the top of your wish list of must-have kitchen items.
It’s a fabulous way to cook, and that’s why I mention it several times on the site.
Besides, did you know you can raise your levels of iron by just cooking in a cast-iron skillet? Imagine that you can enjoy a recipe like my keto scones and boost your iron levels to boot.

Best Sugar Substitutes For Sugar-Free Chocolate Scones
My top choice is a monk fruit/erythritol blend. My personal favorite is Lakanto’s brand. But you can also use Swerve, an erythritol sugar substitute.
You could also use the stevia and erythritol-based brand Pyure for most of my baked goods. However, I will add that I am not a fan of stevia-based ingredients in chocolate. I find it intensifies the aftertaste.
If you still plan on using Pyure, you will want to use half the amount called for in this recipe since it’s a much sweeter choice.
Lastly, if you can’t easily find a more natural sugar substitute, you can also use Splenda or a generic brand of the same. It will work with great success.
I know not everyone would agree with me here, and I respect that, but in my book, it’s still better than regular sugar.
When it comes to the keto chocolate glaze, you will have to use a confectioner’s sugar substitute. Both Lakanto and Swerve have great ones to choose from.

My failed attempts when I first went keto caused me to be very intentional with my keto baking recipes, like these scones.
I threw away so many ingredients initially, and I never want anyone to be so frustrated that they give up on the diet before they can see long-lasting results.
Even though those early days were not fun, the fact that I stayed the course has made this journey very rewarding.
Besides, if I had quit at the first sign of struggle, I would not have had the opportunity to engage with you all.

Join Our Jesus And Keto Movement
Randy and I came to the keto diet looking at it from a Christian perspective. As believers, we live our lives supported by God’s grace.
So when the Holy Spirit led us to combine our Christian faith and the keto diet, we did so in hopes of finding lasting transformation.
To say we needed God’s intervention is to put it mildly. When we followed the Holy Spirit’s prompting, we got on the path to real transformation.
Knowing firsthand the benefits of this decision, we have created a closed Christian group that is using the keto diet to transform their lives.
We invite you to join our Private Facebook Group and see if it’s not the key you have been missing.
