How To Make Keto Spice Bread

To make this gluten-free bread, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease and line an 8×4-inch loaf pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang of about 2 inches so that the loaf can be lifted out of the pan once it is fully baked.

In a large bowl, mix the following dry ingredients: almond flour, coconut flour, salt, baking powder, psyllium powder, flax meal, and spices. Set it aside.

Melt the coconut oil and allow it to cool. Combine the coconut oil with the sugar substitute and vanilla extract in a separate bowl. Beat the eggs one at a time and mix until thoroughly combined.

Add the mixed dry ingredients to the wet batter and beat at low-medium speed using a hand mixer or stand mixer until well incorporated.

Add ½ cup of almond or coconut milk and continue to mix. Stir in the chopped walnuts.

Place the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake at 350 degrees for 35–40 minutes, or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.

The Flours

I’m a big fan of sneaking more fiber into my recipes. Frankly, I feel that most people doing keto are not getting enough fiber in their diet.

That’s why I added psyllium husk powder, a secret ingredient that adds extra fiber to this low-carb bread recipe and helps bind the ingredients together. It’s a type of soluble fiber derived from the husks of psyllium seeds.

I also used a combination of golden flax meal, coconut flour, and almond flour, which are naturally high in fiber.

This recipe has 4.5 grams of fiber per slice, making it a tasty way to add more to our diet.

Fiber is essential for our good gut bacteria to flourish. So, trust me when I tell you it’s a good thing that this is a high-fiber keto spice bread option.

When it came to getting the right flavor for this keto spice bread, I knew that I wanted to use several warm spices.

I chose to use ground cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and mace powder.

Of course, make sure that your spices are fresh. This is important since stale spices have zero value and can affect the overall flavor. I make it a point to replace my spices every season to ensure quality.

The Sugar Substitute

It’s important to note that this keto bread recipe calls for a substitute for brown sugar.

My two favorite brands are Swerve brown sugar and Surkin Gold.

Remember that you can increase the sugar substitute by 1/4 cup for a sweeter spice bread option.

With that being said, you can substitute for white granulated sweeteners, such as a monk fruit sweetener or stevia and erythritol blend.

However, if you go with the stevia option, you will need to reduce the amount to half the amount called for.

How To Store Keto Spice Bread?

Once your keto-friendly spice bread has come out of the oven and has been allowed to cool thoroughly on a wire rack, you can wrap it in plastic wrap and store it in your refrigerator in an airtight container for up to five days.

Alternatively, freeze your spice loaf whole or in slices for up to three weeks.

When ready to serve, allow the bread to come to room temperature overnight in the fridge or place it in a 300-degree oven for 20–25 minutes until it’s hot and defrosted.

This keto spice bread can be enjoyed on its own or toasted with a pat of butter.
